Do I need a valid HK ID Card when applying for a Chinese Travel Permit?

Hi

Does anyone know- I have an expired HK ID card, but was told by the embassy I could apply for a chinese travel permit? However before I do this does anyone know if I need to have a valid HK Id card or is this not relevant?

Thanks

You don't need to submit a valid HK ID card. To be specific, you just need to submit an application, a qualified photo, and the original copy and photocopy of your HK passport.

Does this apply if I only hold a British passport? I was born in HK but have only ever held a British passport?
Thanks :)

Well, if you only have British passport, you have to apply for a visa instead of the travel permit. Another option is to renew your HK ID cards as well as apply for a HK passport through the embassy. Then apply for the travel permit.
