About:China Visa Renewal and Extension

I'm trying to just stay 2 extra weeks

Hello! I'm traveling through Asia and have an American passport with a multi-entry 90 day visa that expires in December 2016. I really like this entry permit definitely want to use it till December 2016.

I plan on doing a study program here that is about 3.5 months. My school is private, and doesn't provide entry permits. If I'm granted an extension will the new entry permit cancel my old one leaving me with no options of returning? Or, would the extended entry permit also be a multi-entry 90 day one that expires in December 2016? Or something else? Thank you!

Warren, people usually extend their duration of stay when their current entry permits are almost expired. You are suggested to do the extension around 7 days before your current one is expired. When you get your new entry permit, your old one should be expired already.

I can't ensure that you will acquire another multiple entry one because it the officers at local entry and exit management bureau who make the final decision. It could be just a single entry one with duration of 30 days only. By the way, if your current one isn't X type, then you already violated Chinese entry and exit management law.

It's not your school who provide proper entry permits. They just give you the documents including admission letter and jw202 form (if they have) and then you apply on your own.
