Getting to sites plus Clearing customs

Hello. I have a layover in Shanghai from 5:30am departing 1pm. Is it possible to clear customs both ways and possibly see some sites by car, etc in that time frame?

Yes, you can make full use of these hours to tour around some scenic spots in this city.
But before you leaving the airport, you need to apply for the Stay Permit at the airport first. After that, you are allowed to go out of the airport.

you won't have that much time............figure on 1/2 hour to clear the airport, an hour to get 'anywhere' by subway, leaving you to start heading back around 10:30am - to give some time to grab lunch at the airport
