About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Zurich-Frankfurt-Beijing-YangonYangon-Kunming-Chengdu-Frankfurt-Zurich

Hello! We are planning our Christmas vacation trip to Laos and Myanmar with a couple of overstops in China. When we bought the tickets, we had only one overstop on each way in China, but recently China Air added one more overstop on the way back (in Kunming).
Here is the route
1. Zurich-Frankfurt-Beijing (37 hours) -Yangon - we are Russian and Dutch couple, residing in Switzerland. As I understand the 72 hour transit is applicable for this flight. Am I correct?
2. Yangon-Kunming (1,5 hour), Arrive: 15:55, Depart to Chengdu 17:25 - Chengdu (6,5 hours), Arrive: 18:50, Departure to Frankfurt 01:30 - Frankfurt - Zurich - We do not plan to leave airport in Kunming but do plan to do it in Chengdu. Will the first stop disqualify us for the 72-hour free transit in Chengdu? I mean can we go to the city to have a dinner? If we are not eligible to leave the airport, can we just stay in the Chengdu airport and wait in transit zone till our next flight without any additional visa?

Hi Svetlana!
1. You are right, the first route is eligible for the 72-hour free transit policy.

2. Even though the stop in Kunming disqualfies you for the 72-hour free transit, you are still eligible for the 24-hour free transit policy. No transit permit is needed. You can leave the airport to have a dinner by applying for a temporary stay permit on the site.
