About:Chinese Embassies and Consulates

I have a 9 hour layover in Beijing coming up. How/ where do I exit to leave the airport entirely?

Do I need to apply for a 72 hour visa to leave the airport? If not I know I will need to receive a transit stamp but is there an exit in this airport before having to re-enter security? I hope this is clear. Just need some advice on where to go after I exit the plane from Bangkok in Beijing if I would like to leave the airport for a 9 hour layover.

Where are you going after you finish your transit in Beijing? If your destination isn't any place in Thailand again, you are ok for 72 hours free transit. So you just need to follow the direction boards to find the place where you apply after you land at the airport. It's a stamp on your passport. With this stamp, you can exit and pay a short visit to the city. Of course you need to go through the security check again after you get back to the airport.

You can make use of your 9 hours transit to visit the Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. You can take airport express to Dongzhimen and then change subway line 2 to Qianmen Station. It's the fastest way.
