planning to visit Tianjin in december from India and stay for 48 hours is visa required for Indians.

Yes, a visa is needed. If only for a drop-by during the travel, you should apply for a transit visa (G type). If purely for visit, a tourist visa (L type) is needed. You should apply for the visa in advance at Chinese embassy or consulate near your location.1
