About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

12 hr layover in PEK. Do I need a 72 hr transit visa?

Hi there,
I am from a country listed that is eligible to receive a 72 hr transit. However with a 12 hour layover I wanted to leave the airport in Beijing. With no additional layovers in China before or after, Do I need to apply for the permit? Will I run into trouble trying to leave the airport?

Apierce, you needn't apply for anything if you plan to exit the airport. When you arrive, you should apply for the free transit at the designated window. You will get a stamp on your passport. With this stamp, you can exit and reenter the airport during the transit without a problem.
