About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Does this 72 hour free transit rule also apply to one day cruise ship visits to Xiamen?

I am an Australian passport holder and will be a passenger on a tourist cruise ship which will visit Xiamen for only a few hours on one day, arriving and sailing on the same day. Do I need to apply to come ashore in Xiamen for a few hours on that day?

Bob, the 72-hour free transit rule does not apply to passangers entering by train or ship. However, the 24-hour free transit service applies to them. So you still don't need the transit permit.

Thanks Nelson.
Given that I won't need a 'transit permit', will I need an entry VISA to China just to go ashore at Xiamen for a few hours during our cruise ship visit?

No, you don't need it. You can just apply for a temporary stay permit at the port so that you can go ashore.
