About:China Student Visa

I have plans of entering China with the business visa and then apply to a university.

Would it be possible to switch to a student type upon paying my fees?

Angy, it's possible to do so, but I still advise you to directly apply for a student type if you don't have to be engaged in businesee activities after you enter China.
