About:Beijing Travel

Hi I'm flying from Hong Kong to Beijing then on to Japan.

My transit is only 17 hours. I arrive in PEK at 23:25, so can I use the facilities at the airport instead of getting a hotel? If so, will I need to go to the police station or anything else to register for a free transit? Thank you!

There are hourly lounges in the airport for the transit passengers, you can use that. If you just stay in the airport, you don’t need to go to the police station or apply for a free transit.

Thanks. I like to leave the airport early in the morning for sightseeing though. Any suggestion on tours, DIY, or just hire a taxi?

You can make full use of these hours and travel by yourself.
Take the airport express to get to Dongzhimen Station. It only takes around 20 mins.
Then take subway line 2 to Jianguomen Station and transfer to line 1 to East Tiananmen Station, Exit A. Walk north around 0.6 miles to visit Forbidden City.
After touring around, you can take a taxi to go to Wangfujing Avenue. Taste delicious local snacks and buy some meaningful souvenirs.

After the sightseeing, dining and shopping, you can take a taxi back to the airport to catch the flight.
