About:China Visa Application in USA

z visa question

I am applying for a z type. I need to be at my work in China by August 23. How close to my departure date must I get the embassy approval? What do I put on the application for length of stay since I will be there for a little over a year (ex: If I go to the embassy on July 13 but am not expected to be in the country until the 23rd of August will that count against the number of days I am allowed to be in country?)

Hey Becky! It's suggested you apply for it one month before your departure date. It does not matter how long stay duration you put on the applicaion form. The Z type is only valid for 30 days. After you arrive in China, you are requested to get a temporary residence permit with the 30 days. The validity of the residence permit determines how long you can stay in China. If the validity is not enough for you stay, you can apply for an L type before your residence permit expires, so that you can live for another 30 days.
