About:Policy for Foreigners with Immediate Family Living in China

Do my children need S1 visas?

Can my children go from a tourist type directly to the residence permit, or do they need to have S1 types before I apply for their residence permits? My wife and I have both been invited/accepted to university and will be on X1s.

Tim, you should help your kids to apply for S1 type first. Then they can change their S1 types into temporary resident permits when they arrive. If they enter with tourist types, then they need get back to apply for S1 types.
