I would like to buy a motorbike in Thailand and go through Laos to the Yunnan Province. Do I need special papers for the customs?Dave from Canada

I am afraid you can't. According to what I know, you should contact a Chinese tour agency to help you acquire the driving license, insurance and number registered in China. Then you are able to ride your motorbike into Yunnan. Besides, you should have valid Chinese entry permit (visa).
