About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I read that a Stop over at same country of departure is not possibile for a 72 hours visa free.

What if I go to the same country as the departure BUT with a Stop over in a different one?
Ex.: Taipei - Shanghai - Taipei (but with stop over in Hong Kong)

If you return to the country of departure but with a stopover on your way back, then it's possible to get the free transit service.
