visa extension for China from Hong Kong - can I leave and come back in

I have been granted a 30 day double entry business type for mainland China and have been told to exit to Hong Kong in order to extend my business type. I have been told that my passport will be stamped with another 30 days. Is this correct or do I need to apply for a new one before leaving China.

Emain, you don’t need to leave for Hong Kong to apply for the extension. You can extend the current entry permit at the local exit and entry office. Since you have double entries, if you go to Hong Kong, another entry will be activated for you to enter again.
