Hey, you can take bus from Xinnanmen Bus Station. Bus from the station can take you to the scenic area directly. There is direction board near the entrance.

It is impossible for you to rent a self driving car, for only with a Chinese license you can drive on the road. But it would be ok if you rent a car with a driver.

Can I rent a car with a driver in the region after arrival?

I hope it is not your 1st travel in China. Oct is probably the craziest month in JZG. The mounts and lakes are in the most beautiful time but you will have to face to 40 thousand, even more, Chinese people on one single day. and you must had heard about their insufferable manner. sorry for saying that as a chinese myself, but it is true.

bus from Chengdu to JZG usually departs from two stations Xinnanmen (新南门) and Chadiazi（茶店子）and you can easily find them in Chengdu if you show these two name to any taxi and tell them you want to go to Jiuzhiagou . you'd better buy the ticket 1-2days before you travel. and one adult ticket will cost 140-170RMB for single trip. otherwise, there is another private picking point at 89 Shuhan Rd(蜀汉路) called HUA-HAO-YUE-YUAN Hotel(花好月圆). if you have a Chinese speaker travel with you, private car could be a choice. and it will cost you roughly 200RMB for an adult. Please notice that this is not an official picking point.

there are self rent cars in Chengdu and Aba, not sure about the detail but I did see sort of information in SinaWEIBO. However, I strongly suggest you forget about it if you don't have any experiences of living and surviving in China. because a foreigner who is not familiar with this place may not able to cope any incident.

the best suggestion I can give is find a Chinese speaking guider from Chengdu, wont be very difficult or expensive.
