About:China Tourist Visa

singaporean overstaying in china

i've a friend from singapore and he's overstayed here in china for 5 years and wants to go home what should he do? the thing is he lost his passport cause it has already expired, he wants to go back because he has 2 kids and he would like them to go back to study, please advise? what are the penalties he would receive here in china and will he be charged again upon reaching singapore?

Ken, as your friend's overstaying situation is serious, he would probably receive a fine of RMB 10,000 yuan in total, or be detained for not less than five days but not more than 15 days. I think he should first go to the Singaporean embassy in China and apply for a new passport or identity certificate. Then go to the local police and pay the fines. Then the police may send him back. After reaching Singapore, it's likely that he will be charged, but whether this will happen depends on the law of Singapore and your friend's reason for overstaying.
