About:China Outbound Tourism in 2013

London, Paris, Frankfurt

Hi there, I have access to flight data that would suggest Germany was the top destination for Chinese tourists in 2014, followed by the UK and France. Would you suggest that this is true?

Also do you have a link to the methodology that the CNTA uses to produce these lists? I know for example that the UK's methodology in obtaining this info is based on an exit survey that has inherent biases and flaws. I notice this for example only takes into account bookings through travel agents.

Kind regards,
Kyle

Kyle, I don't think so. I read the annual reports for 2013, 2012 and 2011 and found that South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, USA, Cambodia, Vietnam and Japan ranked as most popular tourist destinations. So I don't think that Germany, UK and France will replace these countries so fast. You'd better wait for the 2014 annual report. Usually the annual report is issued in Sepetember or October.

CNTA didn't reveal how they gathered the data. I personally guess that its data might be provided by the local tourism bureaus.
