About:Visa Policy of China

US Passport Holder Transit Question

Can I travel from Taipei (TPE) to Shanghai (PVG) remain for 48 hours then travel on to Hong Kong (HKG)?

Antony, generally speaking, your route is eligible for the 72 hour free transit and you don't need the entry permit for Shanghai, but sometimes the immigration officer may think you are just trying to avoid applying for the entry permit. You are suggested to confirm this with the airline or immigraton authorities.
