Does a visa last several months or longer? Is one fine for all destinations?

Hello, I'm a US citizen that would like to travel with my spouse a US airline pilot. Each trip he takes is 4 days from arrival to departure back to the US. I would like to travel several times over approximately 4 or 5 months. Also, he travels to Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong.

While, according to your description, I guess you may need a tourist visa. You can apply for an Multiple Entry Tourist Visa for 10m Years. It costs 140USD with the same requirement as before.
