24 hour free transit policy for cruise passengers leaving from Shanghai?

My flight from ICN arrives at PVG at 8:10 pm. I plan to get out of the PVG airport, stay in a friend’s house in Shanghai, and board a cruise ship next day. The ship is scheduled to leave from Shanghai (Baoshan) to Jeju Island, South Korea, at 5 pm. I have a U.S. passport. Would the 24 hour free transit policy apply for me? Thanks for the help!

As many say the 24 hours start from the following midnight after your arrival, I think the free transit policy applies for you. After you settled everything in your friend's house, you should go to the nearby police station for registration.
