Extending a X2 visa

Hello,
I just got back my X2 because I will be doing an unpaid internship in Shanghai. However, I was only granted 3 months visa but my internship runs for 6 months. How can I go about extending this once I am there?
Thank you

Jim, you are required to extend your X2 type at least 7 days before your X2 expires at local entry and exit management bureau. I think you should pay a visit there and ask about the details. Then you can prepare all the required documents and ask for an extension.

If you can extend it in the local exit and entry administration bureau, of course you don't need to leave the country. However, if it can't be done, you have to leave China and apply for another entry permit.
