6 Months tourist type instead of 10 years

My passport has 11 months left. When I applied for my 10 year visa, they gave me a six months type instead without telling me. When I get my new passport, will they update my current 6 months to 10 years, or will I have to pay again?

It's sure that they will not update your current 6 month duration to 10 years. Even though you reapply for the 10 years multiple entry type with your new passport and pay all the fees, you are not assured to get it.
