About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

72 Hour policy in Beijing via another Chinese City

Hi
If I fly from Bangkok to Beijing changing in Guangzhou ( both ways ) am I eligible for a 72 hour visit in Beijing ? I would only be changing planes in Guangzhou but the flight ticket would be a Bangkok-Beijing return with China Southern airlines

Kevin, I'm sorry to tell you that you cannot travel from Beijing to Guangzhou nor from Guangzhou to Beijing when using 72 hour free transit. If both the layovers are not more than 24 hours, you can enjoy the 24 hour free transit. In that case, you can travel between the two cities. Otherwise, you have to apply for the G type.

Best way to get around that is to fly into either Kuala Lumpur, Marcau or Hong Kong to avoid changing flights to and from Beijing. It's really cheap to fly to Bangkok from any of those places. Hope you can use this.
