About:Chinese Embassy in Vietnam

I am an Australian citizen and would like to go to Shanghai for 2 days from Hanoi.

Do I need to get a visa? As i heard if you're going for less than 72 hours you don't need it.

You head for Shanghai for sightseeing or making international transfering?
If you mean only for sightseeing, you need to have a single entry Tourist L. The 72-hour free entry policy is only available for those who make international flights transfer in China for less than 72 hours.
