shanghai to the great wall

Question

I would like to take the overnight train to Beijing then take the best form of transportation to the wall. What would you suggest? I also would like to take the train back to Beijing and stay one night. What would be the best area to stay? I would like to see the Forbidden City in the morning if possible.

Kait, it's possible. You can take G trains from Shanghai to Beijing South Railway Station. Then take subway line 4 to get off at Pinganli (平安里) and walk around 100 meters to find Pinganlilukoubei (平安里路口北). There you can take T13 to get off at Deshengmen. From Deshengmen, you can take no.877 bus to Badaling. The S2 train takes you from Badaling to Beijing North Railway Station. If you plan to visit the Forbidden City, you'd better find a hotel near the Forbidden City. What is your budget for accommodation?
