From Z to L visa and hukou jurisdiction

I have lived in Beijing for 12 years, the last ten of which with a biannual Z-type. Due to change in job, I will have to renew my Z by converting it to an L. My wife and I have been married for 11 years but we do not however live in the jurisdiction of her hukou. My question is therefore whether I have to apply for the L at the PSB of her hukou or whether I can just do it in the capital where stay on a normal basis.

You just need to go to Exit-Entry Adminstration Bureau for applying the L. You had better consult whehter you can change it or not on your own. Based on my experience, it is hard to change it if you you apply in person within China mainland. It is not assured.
