Visa application outside country of nationality

Hi.

I am from The Netherlands (Holland). I live in Paris, France as a student. I am going as a tourist to Shanghai from 22 December until 6 January. I will apply for Tourist L in Paris, France.

On the website of visaforchina.org it says:

(3) Proof of legal status (applicable for those not applying for the visa in their country of citizenship)
If you are not applying it in the country of your citizenship, you must provide the original and photocopy of your valid certificates of residence, employment or student status, or other valid certificates of legal stay provided by the relevant authorities of the country where the Centre is located.

What do they need? I am currently living with friends so I do not have an official document regarding residency. I do however have an official certificate that I am a student in Paris. Do I need this?

I have been to China before, without any problems I have received a 60 day L visum in The Netherlands, a 150 days X2 visum in Hong Kong and a Residence permit for 7 months in Guangzhou.

You want to apply in France?
If so, you can provide the official certificate to show you are a student in France and then you can apply in France.
Remember to take your previous documents having L, X2 and residence permit in Guangzhou for your new application.

So it should not be a problem that I don't have a French residence permit?

Since you a student in France, the student certificate is enough. If you still worries, you can contact the Chinese embassy in France for confirming.
