can you get a chinese visa in Bali

I am flying to Kupang via Bali in a day or two and now need to go on to China straight after a few days in Kupang. Is there an embassy in Bali that can process my application and if so how does it take and do they need to hold my passport while it is being processed, as I would like to fly onto Kupang and then return to Bali collect mine

There is no consulate in Bali. The people in Bali need to go apply in the CVASC in Surabaya for application. Usually, it takes around 4 working days and your passport should be kept in the CVASC for application.
