About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

I'm from Canada, planning to stop over in Shanghai for 3 days at my friend's prior to flying to HKG

You said that the transit permit should be done at the airport on arrival, but since I will be staying at my friend's place, where may I complete the registration? Do I have to register myself personally at a local police station? Is there any other options?

You need to register at a local PSB near your friend's place with your friend together. And the stay permit still should be got in the airport.
