Visas for passengers on a world cruise

Our cruise will include a 12-hour stop in Sanya. Will I need to apply for a Chinese transit if I take a land tour (returning to the ship after about 5 hours)? Will I need to apply one if I do NOT leave the ship?

According to the rules, you do not need to apply a transit one.
If you land for a tour, you need to fill a form and apply for a stay permit at the immigration in Sanya Port to get out it.
Nothing is needed if you just stay on the cruise.
