About:Beijing Great Wall

Can the Great Wall be reached from Bejing station by train?

How long would the bus/ taxi take? What are the costs involved? I am reaching Bejing tomorrow morning and leaving back to Shanghai by the 5 pm fast train. Is this enough time to visit the Great Wall ( I plan to see the Badaling section) AND Tiananmen square?

Peter, there is no train from Beijing railway station to any section of the wall. If you really want to take the train to visit the wall, you may take subway line 2 from Beijing Railway station to Beijing North Railway Station. It takes around 30 minutes. There you can take S2 train to Badaling Section. It takes 1 hours and 15 minutes by train.

So it takes around 2 hours for you to reach Badaling section. Then you may spend around 2 hours on the wall. The G and D trains from Beijing to Shanghai depart from Beijing South and ordinary trains depart from Beijing Railway Station. If your train depart from Beijing South, then you need to take No. 919 or 877 to reach Deshengmen first. It takes around 1 to 1.5 hours. Then you need to take No.409 bus from Deshengmen to Huguosi Station. When you get off, you should walk around 60 meters to reach Pinganli subway Station and then take subway line 4 to reach Beijing South. It takes around 40 minutes.

Usually, you should arrive at the railway station at least 30 minutes before your train depart. I have no idea when you arrive in Beijing. However, you can calculate if you have enough time for a visit to Badaling. You need around six hours to finish your whole journey. If you arrive in the early morning, you may do a trip to Badaling.
