Visa overstay situation
A relative of mine is living in China. She has been exiting china as required to renew her visa (18 hour drive one way). During the last exit, one of the immigration officers stamped cancelled (on her passport) on her way out of China. She asked him why and he had a question about how much money she was taking to Macau with her. She told him how much she had and he said that she was okay. Okay to go into Macau. On her way back into China, she was let in without a problem. She now went ( another 18 hours drive)to renew it per routine ( she does not want to violate Chinese law), and was told that she has over stayed on it. She was instructed to go back to report to immigrationin the city where she lives. Immigration directed her to the police who have taken her passport and required her to pay the penalty fee of 10,000. What are her options? She is very distressed as she is a law abiding honest citizen and was just trying to do the right thing.
