can us citizen renew f visa in japan?

Question

I'm a US citizen and currently working in China. I need to renew my F.Someone told us we can not renew it in Japan because we don't work there.Should we go back to USA to renew it?

Hi, if you used the entries of the F and exited from China, the F itself expires and can not be renewed. I think you mean to apply for a new F, which is possible and you have to apply in person from the embassy or consulate providing invitation letter from China, your entry record (original and copy) to Japan, round-trip ticket and hotel bookings.
