Need to head to Hong Kong and back to China

Hi, I have a one time visa to China but I now have to make a trip to Hong Kong during my trip. What's the best way to go about ensuring re-entry to the mainland? Is it easier to renew a new one (change to multiple entry) in China or in Hong Kong?

As I know, it usually is not that easy to renew it for entry! I have a suggestion for you: take a plane home from HK via Guangzhou, with air ticket booked in advance. Then you will be qualified for the 72h free-visa policy in Guangzhou! Just for your reference!
