Day trips around Shangri-La

Hello,

I am preparing a trip in Yunnan for July, and I would be glad if you could give me some advice!
We are planning to visit Shaxi and stay there for 3 nights, then sleep in Dali one night, Lijiang one night, and then travel to Shangri-la.

The highlights of our trip had to be Shaxi and then some place(s) (not decided yet) we could reach from Shangri-la. We are planning to stay only one night in Dali on our way back from Shaxi, only to drop some people to the airport.

I have just seen on the forum that a big part Shangri-la Old Town burnt in January, so it might not be worth to spend a few days there... but are they day-trips you recommend around Shangri-la? Monasteries/lakes/mountains/trekking/horse riding/"scenic areas"? We are three 25 year-old girls, one of us speaking fluent Mandarin. We initially wanted to go to Daocheng Yading or Deqin but it seems to be unrealistic in regard of the time necessary to get there (we would have only 3/4 nights-4/5 days).

Concerning Tiger Leaping Gorge, is it possible to go there from Shangri-la? From Shaxi? How long does it take by bus?

Thank you so much for any advice you can give us, we feel a bit lost!

The fire does not affect the local tourism and if time is possible, you can stay there for one day in the ancient town.

Since you are young people, hiking along the Tiger Leaping Gorge is highly suggested. After hiking, you can head for the Shangri-la. The bus from the gorge to the shangri-la costs around three hours.
