Transit visa via Shanghai Airport

Hi, I am a permanent Hong Kong resident with valid travelling document travelling from home to Tokyo, Japan with my domestic helper (an Indonesian) who holds an Indonesian passport. We intend to take the China Eastern Airline connecting flight from Tokyo back to Hong Kong after sightseeing. The flight is scheduled to stop in SHA Airport (flight no. MU522) and then fly out of PVG Airport (flight no. MU725) on the same day.
Grateful if anyone could tell me whether my Indonesian domestic helper requires to apply for a visa in person during the transit from SHA to PVG or the airline co. will apply for my helper in advance.

The visa is not needed for your helper, if you stay there for no more than 24 hours.
