About:Chinese Consulate in San Francisco

Can I apply for a visa in SFO as a US citizen even though I am temporarily living in India

I am a US citizen temporarily residing in India. I am scheduled to visit China in the first week of May from India. I am also scheduled to travel to the US in April - leaving India mid April and returning to India late April. Because I may not have sufficient time to get my Chinese one in India before I leave to the US, I am wondering if I can apply for it in the Consulate at San Francisco while I am in the US, even though my travel to PRC will originate from India.

I am afraid you can't. If you plan to apply ouside India, you must provide the legal resident status or permits in the third country where you stay. So you'd better squeeze some time and apply for it in India. If everything goes well, you can have it in four days.
