About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Return flight with a layover in th same country

If I fly from US to Tokyo and stay for 5 days, then fly to Beijing from Tokyo and fly back to US (within 72 hours) with a connecting fight in Tokyo, would I qualify for the 72 hours free transit?

I ended up not going to Beijing after all, went to Korea instead, will do a full China trip another time.
