About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I'm from the US taking a trip all over SouthEast Asia. Im planning on getting a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing and hope to stay for the 72 hours...

and then leave from Beijing to Los Angeles (Tickets will be purchased prior to the trip)

Will I qualify for the 72 hour free transit?
