I and my husband are living in Bangkok thru his work permit and we are renting a condo in Bangkok

Since more than a year. We are US citizens. If we want to visit Beijing should we apply for china visa as US citizen or submit the proof of residency and copy of Bangkok work permit? If i do that way how much is the fee. We are visiting Beijing for 7 days.
