About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

re entering china

My boss went to Shanghai last year but was deported because he didn't have a visa. He made a mistake and thought he could be in China for 72 hours, but he did not have a third country to travel to, he only had a return ticket to the country he came from.

Now he wants to travel Bali and Japan, and would like to stop in Shanghai for one night too.

Can he re-enter to china on a transit permit if he has be deported in the past?

I would be grateful for any advice you can offer me.

Don't worry, you boss can use 72 hr free transit in Shanghai if he has confirmed ticket to a third country this time.
