I have to rectify that Great Wall is not the border line for today's China. If you read some materials about the wall, you will know that it's impossible for you to visit all the parts of the wall. You might spend a day visiting a certain section. Most foreigners go to Beijing to visit it. I'd like to know which section you prefer to visit, Badaling, Jinshanling, Mutianyu, Gubeikou or other sections?
If you have no idea, I'd suggest you visit the Mutianyu section because many foreigners go there. Badaling section is world-famous but its original appearance is not as good as that of Mutianyu.
From Shanghai to Beijng, you might fly or take a train. The air ticket prices vary from 600 to 1000 RMB in recent days. The ticket prices for D trains from Shanghai to Beijing is 408 RMB for second class and 648 RMB for the first class. Since you are not familiar with Beijing, you might hire a driver to finish your tour. The car rental is from 500 to 700 RMB.
