I have taken a package tour from india to visit Hongkong and macau, I have been told that the visa would be given on arrival for both these places. I am also planning to visit Shenzhen city for a day from Hong Kong,

Actually, you can apply for the VOA at the Luohu Border if you just visit Shenzhen. However, I don't know if you can get it 100% for sure. The safest way is to apply for a L type in advance before you go to HK and Macau.
