Travel visa to visit Beijing for American living in Tokyo

Hi, I'd like to visit Beijing for the holidays to see some friends, is it possible to go to a travel agency in Tokyo to apply for it? Can you give me the name and contact for a travel agency that processes it?

Yes, you should apply for the L type one visa the appointed travel agency. The embassy doesn't specify the appointed travel agencies on their website so that I think you should call them to acquire the contact info. Tel (Chinese embassy in Japan): 03-3403-5633, 03-3403-5232, 03-3403-3419 and 03-3403-0924.
