About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Does the 72-hour visa free policy applied from Australia to Vancouver via Guangzhou in March 14?

I am planning to fly to Vancouver, Canada from Sydney, Australia in March 2014 with China Southern Airlines via Guangzhou; will I be able to stop over in Guangzhou under the 72-hour free policy?
