About:Chinese Embassies and Consulates

My American husband will be in Zurich in 2 days, he wants to get a visa for China the next day.

Is it possible to get a urgent one if you are an American. I have read many different things on the internet. If not, is there a European country that will allow it?

I think he can give it a try at the Chinese consulate in Zurich. As the rules claim, the applicants who apply in the third country must provide the work or study permit or any other legau status (original and copy of his/her visa). If not possible, he can fly to HK and apply one there and then enter mainland China.
