Travel - Australia - Shanghai - Australia (only 1 day in shanghai, do I need a visa for this... or is my return ticket suitable.

Hi there, I am needing to visit a friend for a day in Shanghai and only need to fly in for a day. I will be flying from Melbourne, into Shanghai and then back out to Melbourne the next day. I will need to leave the airport.
