Extending visa earlier than one week before expiration date

Hi, I'm in Lijiang now and was planning to extend my visa here because we stay here for more days. Now I heard that you can only apply for an extension if your current visa expires within one week. Is that correct?

I think you should confirm this with the entry and exit administration bureau in Lijiang. As far as I know, the applicants can do extension one week in advance.
