US citizen flying from Canada to Canada through PEK

Flying from Toronto to BJ and back to Canada (Vancouver) with less then 8 hours stopover - do I need visa?

Yes, you need to apply for a Chinese visa in advance for this visit. 72 hr free transit does not allow this.
